The Doris Kennedy Education Foundation (DKEF, DKE Foundation) is a domestic, private, nonprofit charitable foundation organized under the laws of the state of New York and registered with the New York Secretary of State. PERSONAL DATA WE COLLECT AND WHY WE COLLECT IT?…
DKEF collects personal identifiers, such as name, email address, & date of birth; non-transactional data, such as contact information or telephone number; commercial information, such as your geolocation (physical location); and technical data, such as information about cookies when you visit our website, fill out a web based form on our website or fill out a web based application(s).
We use the information we collect to perform our duties and meet our obligations to you. We may also use your information for other legitimate interests as well as, but not limited to, the delivery of services you may request, to send promotional materials or communications regarding our services, and to evaluate the services we offer.
By default WordPress, the software used for our website, does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users.

If visitors are able to leave comments on our site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address & browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available on their website.

For our everyday business purposes, such as processing your Scholarship Application, DKEF may share your information as necessary. If we are required to respond to court orders, government inquiry, security & safely matters or legal investigations, DKEF will strive to limit the types and amount of information we may need to share to that which is reasonably necessary.
We may share your information with non-affiliates such as technology service providers (software) but only during the course of everyday business practices. By default, WordPress does not share any personal data with anyone.
We will never use your personal data to advertise, promote or market third-party goods or services to you nor do we sell any personal data to third parties for their own commercial use.
HOW LONG WE RETAIN YOUR DATA? …
If you are able to leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
WHAT RIGHTS YOU HAVE OVER YOUR DATA? …
Federal law gives you the right to limit only the sharing of data for affiliates’ everyday business purposes, affiliates from using your information to market you, and sharing for non-affiliates to market you. State laws and individual companies may give you additional rights to limit sharing.
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR DATA? …
In order to protect your personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use reasonable organizational, technical and administrative security measures that comply with Federal Law. These measures include computer safeguards and protected files including, but not limited to, secure, monitored communication through emails or texts, two factor access authorization to systems using randomized codes, using technology like firewalls and intrusion detection, and with secure connections to the internet by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).
Our website also uses a SSL Certificate (data encryption), reCAPTCHA (anti spam and abuse) technology and honeypot field technology (designed to catch spammers).
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the internet or data storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure and, to the fullest extent possible by law, DKEF disclaims any warranty or guarantee that your information will be protected from misuse, appropriation, alteration or loss as we can not guarantee third parties will not overcome these measures and gain access to your information.
WHAT THIRD PARTIES WE RECEIVE DATA FROM? …
DKEF is a private, nonprofit charitable Foundation which currently has no other interests, affiliates or subsidiaries, and we do not currently receive or purchase data from any third parties at present.
However, during the processing of your Application, it may be necessary to ask for your authorization to obtain verification of your GPA and your full-time enrollment status from the appropriate third party source. We reserve the right to do so and would make it clear why and what interests are relevant at that point and time.
